What Does FREEDOM Mean To You?

What does freedom mean to you?

Freedom means so many different things to so many different people. I tried to be creative and put in a search for “Freedom” at iStockPhoto.com and found a lot of different pictures that convey the idea of freedom. There are photos of chains being broken. Others were signs of free shipping. Another was a picture of a fork in the road with two options: left meant freedom, to the right meant limits. Another image showed a mans hands that once had rope around them had the rope cut.

Freedom is obtaining true happiness and joy. What is happiness? From one point of view, it might be the lack of boredom–in other words, excitement. At some point, I want to write a thorough post about happiness, but for now, the post is about freedom.

Spiritual Freedom. Physical Freedom. Financial Freedom. Personal Freedom. Mental Freedom.

What do all these things have in common? They are breaking the bondage from something that lacks excitement. To many, freedom means political freedom with the right to freedom of speech and freedom from violence. These are two luxuries that I experience in the United States. One of my personal passions is understanding financial freedom and how to manage finances. Part of this starts with understanding currency and value within a community of people that make up a society governed by rules and laws.

True Freedom Requires Revolution

One author, Carey Kinsolving, posted a very interested article of inspiration around the topic of spiritual freedom. Freedom requires soldiers to give up their lives protecting our country. True freedom requires revolution. If you want to be free, you have to revolt against the thing holding you hostage. If you want to travel, aka freedom of location, you have to revolt against the very thing that keeps you grounded in one location. Understanding this fundamental concept is instrumental in starting your journey to freedom.
